Square Dance Clinics

There are two types of workshops available in 2024. There are several that are an “Introduction to” a level at which dancers will be exposed to some calls or concepts at the new level. There are also workshops that are “Beyond the Ordinary” at which dancers will be exposed to unusual positioning (also called extended applications) using calls at that level. Dancers will need to be proficient at the level indicated or dancing a level above the indicated level to enjoy “Beyond the Ordinary” workshops.

SQUARE DANCE CLINICS AND WORKSHOPS AT A GLANCE

Round Dance Clinics

THURSDAY, JUNE 27TH @ 12:00 PM

Intro to Single Swing
Shawn & Wendy Caveness

If you can dance Jive, you can dance Single Swing – they are sibling rhythms. In this clinic we will introduce the rhythm and the basic figures for Single Swing. Not only is Single Swing a fun and smooth rhythm for the Round Dance floor, it’s also a rhythm you can easily take outside of the Round Dance Hall to weddings or bars – wherever music may be played. Single Swing will make you look like an expert.

Intro to the Tele Family
Bob & Kay “Ski’s” Kurczewski

We would like to introduce you to an approach that we have found very successful in our teaching. It is a ‟One Step” method that we use when teaching the ‟Tele” family of figures. This method can easily be used in the three most popular ‟Tele’s”: Mini-Telespin, Telespin and the Telefeather. After this clinic, we are confident you will be able to utilize this concept when encountering these figures in the future.

Introduction to Round Dancing
Kathy & Tom Nickel

Grab your non-round dancing friends and direct them to this clinic! No round dance (or square dance or line dance or any dance) experience required. Kathy & Tom will get
them started with some waltz basics and show them what they’ve been missing in their lives!

FRIDAY, JUNE 28TH @ 12:00 PM

RUMB-OLOGY
Bill & Carol Goss

Join us for a session that discusses the basic body movements involved in dancing the dance of love- the rumba. We will talk about foot placement, leg action, arms, and even hips in a way that will make your rumba easier and certainly more romantic.

Introduction to Polka,
Wisconsin’s State Dance
Peggy Weisensel Chavey & James Chavey

Come learn how to do this fun, carefree dance. We will cover the basic movements and how you can expand on them. We will discuss leading and following so you can dance even when there’s no cuer around. No prior Polka or Round Dance knowledge needed

Perfecting Left Turning Figures
Mary and Bob Townsend-Manning

An examination of the Tele family and the Reverse family of figures concentrating on body mechanics, frame and leading. Figures from Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Tango starting at Phase IV.

FRIDAY, JUNE 29TH @ 12:00 PM

Making Dancing Look and Feel Better
John and Karen Herr

There is frequently confusion as to the difference between Styling and Body Mechanics. We will help the attendees with ways to make their dancing easier, and consequently look better by taking advantage of the knowledge of how the body works. We will also explain the difference between body mechanics and styling. We will even show some styling.

Swaying into Waltz
Paul Connelly & Barbara Connelly

Dancing waltz is so much fun, but it can often feel stiff. The lower half of the body is doing all the movement, while the upper half holds a perfect frame all the time. This clinic will showcase how you can incorporate the upper body into your
dancing, while keeping the beautiful frame. We will use basic figures from Phase II-IV waltz to get you up and swaying to the music!

Hip Twists Open, Closed & Advanced
Rick Linden & Nancy Kasznay

This clinic will review the differences in various types of Hip Twist in both Rumba and Cha Cha.
