VICE-CHAIRWOMAN CONTRA
Mo Wilkins
Hello – my name is Maureen (Mo) Wilkins from Newton, Iowa and I am the Vice Chairman for Contra. I am relatively new to the Square Dance world – taking Mainstream lessons in 2005 and Plus lessons in 2006.
I attended my first National Square Dance Convention in 2008 when it was in Wichita, KS. I was exploring all of the halls at the convention when I was pulled into the Contra Hall. I knew absolutely nothing about Contra – there was a live band playing and a walk through for each dance by the caller. I instantly fell in love with Contra Dancing.
I joined ContraLab to learn more about this dynamic dancing style and to help promote Contra Dancing at local, state and national venues. At each of the National Conventions I spend most of my time in the Contra Hall and some in the Line Dancing Hall.
I have volunteered on the National Committees for the Contra Hall for Des Moines, IA 2016, Kansas City, MO 2018, Spokane, WA 2020 (cancelled), Evansville, IN 2022 and will be serving on the committee for Milwaukee, WI in 2024.
One of my many hobbies is genealogy – I love spending time in dusty courthouses looking up ancestor land, birth, death and marriage records. I combine these genealogy research trips with visiting Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields. I am also a knitter and a quilter and love making quilts.
If you can square dance – you can Contra Dance!!
